Popular folk singer Dolly Das died at Assam Medial College and Hospital, after  prolonged illness. She passed away on Wednesday morning. She died of cardiac arrest at 2.30 am. Das, 67, was admitted to the medicine unit of AMCH the previous night for respiratory problems. The entire music community of Assam is saddened by her death.

Das is survived by two sons and one daughter and a resident of Dibrugarh, Milan Nagar, Dibrugarh. Her famous music audio cassettes include ‘Madhumoy’, ‘Jayahori’, ‘Krishna’, ‘O’ Jadava.

Born to Mohan Senchao and Bhabani Rupa Senchao on January 1, 1950 in Dibrugarh, she is a popular folk artist of Assam. She has contributed immensely to the field of folk music. She gave 44 years to this music and spent 29 years in teaching songs. She did her doctorate on folk music from world record university at Vietnam in 2014. She took her degree in folk music from Sorbababhartiya Sangeeto Sanskrit Parishad, Kolkata.

She was also a regular singer in All India Radio, Dibrugarh in 1975. She received third prize in All India Telecom Cultural meet held at Ahmedabad in 1990. In 2011, Das received Gold medal in world folklore championship held at Bulgeria. Das was honoured with lifetime achievement award in 2010 by Gurukul Sangeet Nritya Kala Kendra, Dibrugarh.
