Assam taekwon-do players have brought laurels to the state by winning a total of 22 medals in various categories at the recently held 3rd South Asian Open Taekwon-Do Championship in New Delhi.

The state players bagged six gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals in the tournament.

The gold medal winners are Monigriv Gogoi, Ruhinita T Dutta, Shiva Dey, Drishan Gogoi, Keshav Surekha and Ajay Kumar Ray.

The players who bagged silver medals include Amit Sen, Suraj Basfor (2 medals), Rabikanta Mushahary, Akansha Bharadwaj, Harshita Das, Aditya Bakrediya, Dakshabardhan Surekha.

The bronze medalists are Bahnideep Dutta, Deepak Vedant Garodia, Akhankhya Bharadwaj, Dhrubajyoti Saikia, Monigriv Gogoi, Ravikant Muchahary, Ajay Kumar Ray and Hiya Kakati.

India won a total of 282 medals in the taekwondo championship.

Out of the 282 medals, India bagged 79 gold, 88 silver and 115 bronze medals.

The championship was held from May 31 to June 1 at Talakatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

Apart from India, countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Madagascar and Bangladesh participated with over 300 competitors.
