A motor car rally of 10 vehicles with 36 participants to promote road safety reached Moreh, the border town of Manipur on Friday.

The car rally christened ‘Drive for Safety Motor Car Rally’ is being organized by the Ministry of Road and Transport (MoRTH) along with Kalinga Motor Sports Club, Bhubaneswar to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, according to reports.

The rally headed by joint secretary, MoRTH, Abhey Damle and comprising officer on special duty, ministry of External Affairs, colonel Vijeet Tomar; general secretary, Kalinga Motor Sports Club, Ramesh Mahapatra; member of rally organizing Team, Ejji K Umamahesh among others had started the rally from Rajghat in New Delhi on February 4 last.

The car rally will conclude at Yangon in Myanmar on Sunday after completing 7020 kms.

The participants of the rally were accorded a warm welcome on their arrival at the Integrated Check Post of Moreh by colonel Sumitt Sood of 43 Assam Rifles and superintendent of police of Tengnoupal, S Ibomcha along with their teams.

Apart from ensuring their safe passage through the town and Integrated Check Post, the team was greeted by the Assam Rifles band who played patriotic songs for them.

Later, the team was seen off after documentation by the immigration and customs staff at the Integrated Check Post.

The team crossed into Myanmar locals welcomed the participants holding banners that read ‘Welcome to Myanmar’.

Earlier, the rally was flagged off by state chief minister N Biren Singh in Imphal.
