Assam emerged champion at the final of the Hockey India 8th Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship 2018. The host defeated Rajasthan by 3-2. The victory also brought good news for the state players performing at national and international events.

The state government has decided to appoint successful state players at national and international events in the level of ACS, APS and other allied services besides giving cash awards up to Rs 1 crore.

Speaking at the final of the Hockey India 8th Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship 2018 at Hojai on Sunday, chief minister Sonowal announced this to promote and develop sports in the state.

The state government will constitute a high level committee to finalise a module for appointing players who represent the state or country at national and international sporting events and bring laurels.

The chief minister also said the state government is committed to the development of sports equally in all the districts of the state.

Sonowal also hailed the efforts and the sincerity shown by Hojai in organising the tournament successfully. He also said by organising the tournament Hojai has shown its mettle in transforming itself into a major sports centre of the state.

He also said that the tournament would help in promoting the patronage of hockey even in the remotest part of the country. He also said the state government will extend all possible help to all the district sports association to empower themselves as major sporting venues so that national and state level sporting events can be organised successfully in the districts.

MLA Hojai Shiladitya Deb, MLA Lumding Sibu Misra and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
