The 184th Death Anniversary of the Maharaja Gambhir Singh was held under the aegis of State Archaeology, Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur at the Samadhi of Maharaja Gambhir Singh at Langthabal near Imphal on Tuesday.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Minister for Art and Culture L Jayantakumar Singh Minister for Consumer affairs Karam Shyam, Minister for Education Th Radheshyam, Chairman Dr Y Radheshyam of MANIDCO, MLA’s Y Surchandra,S Subhaschandra, P Brojen, S Bira Singh, Y Surchandra, L Susindro Meitei, top civil and police officials and others attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Biren said that a museum would also be established in the premises of the Samadhi to enlighten youths about the sacrifices made by our forefathers during the Seven Years Devastation (1819-1826) to liberate Manipur from the Burmese.

Urging the concerned Minister and officials of the Art and Culture Department to discuss with reputed International Firm or Consultant for the development and beautification of the place, the CM also urged the concerned department to install statues of Nara Singh and Herachandra inside the Samadi of Maharaja Gambhir Singh.

Delivering address during the day’s observation, Minister for Art and Culture Jayantakumar Singh said, “The role of government is to protect the territorial integrity and to uphold sovereignty of the State. It is the responsibility of the government to work for welfare of people of the state, and added that the government needs love, support and participation of the people to bring inclusive development in the State. He maintained that every issue can be resolved through dialogues.”

Earlier Chief Minister N Biren Singh led others in paying floral tributes to portraits of Maharaja Gambhir Singh and Nara Singh. A contingent of Manipur Rifles offered a guard of honour and general salute besides observing two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the Gambhir Singh, Nara Singh and others.
