Several passengers were injured when the bus they were travelling in met with an accident on NH 37 at 9th Mile area on the outskirts of the city on Sunday night.

The passengers in the bus were on the way to upper Assam’s Golaghat from Sontoli area near Boko in Kamrup district to appear for NRC hearing.

The authorities summoned them to upper Assam’s Golaghat district for re-verification of NRC documents scheduled on Monday.

Locals said the accident took place when the driver of the bus with at least 40 passengers lost control and rammed into a road divider.

The injured passengers have been rushed to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) here.

Thousands of people belonging to religious minority community from several Lower Assam areas such as Barpeta, Goalpara, Chenga, Boko, Chaygaon have been summoned to certain far-off Upper Assam districts, including Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji to attend NRC hearings on different dates from August 5 to August 7

The NRC authorities, however, issued the notices as late as on Saturday (August 3) and Sunday (August 4).
