About 120 rural unemployed youths of Dhemaji district, who were trained under NRLM schemes, have got job placement in various government and semi-government agencies, reports Margdarshak Financial Services Ltd – a Project Implementing Agency (PIA) of NRLM.

Salim Ali, the Centre Manager of the financial institution, informed that his institution has imparted training to 210 rural unemployed youths in six bathes in the last two years. He informed that about 60 per cent of the selected youths trained under Bed Side Assistant and Banking Financial Services & Insurance trade have been engaged in service at different hospitals and private sector banks.

Attending a day-long special orientation meeting at Silapathar in Dhemaji district on Thursday, representatives of the PIA informed that their institution has set up a training centre in Lakhimpur and conducting batch-wise training to the trainees selected under NRLM scheme in different districts.

District Project Manager (NRLM) of Dhemaji, Indrajit Gam, who inaugurated the day-long meeting on Thursday, reviewed various achievements made under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) implemented in five blocks of the districts.

He also instructed the Jeevan Sakhis concerned to submit progress report on their regular activities for compilation. Gam in his address informed that a team of administrative officer from South Indian States is arriving at Dhemaji to look into the activities pertaining to promotion of rural livelihood under NRLM in Dhemaji villages.

Another speaker, Supriya Patir, a field worker of NRLM project, briefed on the criteria required for availing opportunity of mechanical skill training and placement under the scheme, asked the Jeevan Sakhis to mobilize rural people about the scheme benefits.

Talking about privilege of NRLM schemes, Supriya said that the scheme ensures both skill training and employment avenue to the targeted beneficiaries, which in fact is not availed in other skill development programmes. She also suggested the rural volunteers to include members of Schedule Caste, Scheduled Tribe categories, women and physically disabled persons in the scheme as per framed guidelines.

Among others, District Functional Expert (NRLM) John Horo, Block Project Manager (Sissiborgaon) Partha Pratim Saikia spoke about career opportunities through NRLM skill training with reference to Post Placement Support (financial aid) given by the PIA in order to meet their primary boarding expenditure.

The District Management Unit of NRLM is implementing DDU-GKY scheme covering 1319 revenue villages (as per 2011 census) of the district, which are spreading in 65 gaon panchayats fall under five Development blocks.
