The proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) continues to recruit fresh cadre into its ranks across the state of Assam, despite sustained anti-insurgency operations against the outfit.

The recent arrest of two active ULFA-I linkmen Bolen Deka(35) and Dimbeswar Deka(32) from Borengabari village under Harisinga police station has revealed that many fresh recruits were made in the Udalguri district by overground workers and linkmen on behalf of  the rebel outfit.

Their apprehension and confessions made by them during their questioning confirmed that three youths of the district who recently went missing were helped by the duo and they escorted the recruits to the camps across the Indo-Myanmar border.

Udalguri Superintendent of Police, Rajveer Singh talking to mediapersons on the sensitive matter stated that as per the revelation of the apprehended linkmen, three youths of various places of Udalguri district namely Susanta Nath, Jayanta Deka and Dhanjit Deka who went missing from their place of inhabitancy are suspected to have joined the rebel outfit.

The security forces have suspected that many other youths who on pretext of working in south or north Indian states left their homes and hardly contact their parents or friends could also be on radar of the rebel group.
