Agitated locals at the accident site

Two persons were killed and several injured in a tragic road accident New Panbari in Assam’s Dhubri district along national highway 31.

According to sources, a Goalpara bound passenger bus fell into a ditch while negotiating a pothole at high speed.

The handyman and another passenger died on the spot. Several passengers were also injured in the mishap, many of them seriously. Locals admitted the injured passengers to the Dhubri civil hospital.

Police arrived at the scene quite late and this agitated the locals. The infuriated locals blocked the road and shouted slogans against the police and the government and also preventing the police to take away the bodies.

The locals have alleged that despite their repeated pleas to repair the road, concerned authorities are exhibiting total negligence that led to the accident.

They have also alleged that the PWD has become a latent department with no work undertaken in recent past. The local residents also denounced the Sarbananda Sonowal government for not showing concern to their region.
