Sensation prevailed in Imphal West district of Manipur after a school teacher was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a girl student, officials disclosed on Thursday.
The accused identified as one Abujam Tombisana, a teacher of Little Master School at Samurou in Imphal West district, was arrested on charges of raping a student, a resident of a girls’ hostel, on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against the accused teacher.
Local residents alleged that when the victim raised an alarm, the accused fled and surrendered at the police station.
Later, irate residents vandalized the boarding house on Tuesday night.
Notably a a public meeting was held on Wednesday, where the local residents demanded death penalty for the accused teacher.
Meanwhile, village elders have threatened that an agitation will be launched demanding justice for the girl victim.
Police maintained that the situation was still tense but under control.
On Wednesday, students of the school held a demonstration demanding action against the accused. They were later pacified with the promise of stern action by the law.
