Police and Forest Department officials arrive at the scene

In yet another incident of rising cases of man-elephant conflict in Assam, a 60-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Kaoimari village of Kaliabor in Nagaon district.

The tragic incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as one Dhuniram Basumatary.

According to locals, the ill-fated person was attacked by an wild pachyderm at around 3 am on Wednesday killing him on the spot.

Family members revealed that the deceased was attacked by the wild elephant when he went out to defecate.

The victim leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended in the entire area over the incident.

Meanwhile, police and Forest Department officials have arrived at the scene and sent the body for post mortem to Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital in Nagaon.

Locals have alleged that wild elephants have been creating havoc in the region for quite some time now.
