Manipur: Army repairs footbridge while efforts continue to restore NH-37

Imphal: Manipur is grappling with the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, which caused significant infrastructure damage. Here’s a consolidated view of the situation:

The collapse of the Irang Bridge on NH-37, a critical artery connecting Imphal to Silchar, has severely impacted vehicular movement.

The state government is working to resume traffic flow via a newly constructed RCC bridge, but a timeframe hasn’t been announced yet.

In a positive development, the Indian Army swiftly responded to a request from Kangvai village in Bishnupur district.

The village’s footbridge over Kangvai Nala, washed away by heavy rains during the cyclone, was a vital link for villagers to access their farms.

The Army deployed a team and, despite challenging water flow, managed to repair the bridge within hours. Local youth also assisted, highlighting the strong community spirit and bond between the villagers and the Army.

While repairs are underway in some areas, reports indicate further damage in Kangpokpi district. The Bailey Bridge connecting the Kangpokpi Military Colony and Saikul has been badly damaged, adding to the state’s transportation woes.
