Imphal: In major breakthrough ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Manipur Police disrupted insurgent activities by apprehending 13 members of a proscribed group and rescuing a kidnapped individual.

The arrests were made during raids conducted in Imphal West district.

Manipur Police, acting on credible intelligence regarding recruitment drives by a valley-based insurgent outfit, launched a coordinated operation involving personnel from Imphal West, Thoubal, and Bishnupur districts. Additionally, Assam Rifles and CRPF units participated in the operation.

The joint team, accompanied by an executive magistrate, targeted two suspected training camps situated in the northern region of Imphal West.

The raids led to the dismantling of both camps, the apprehension of 13 cadres belonging to the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group – KCP (PWG)), and the liberation of a captive held by the group.

The apprehended militants were allegedly involved in unlawful activities such as training new recruits, kidnapping, and extortion.

The team recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition, including rifles, pistols, grenades, magazines, and assorted rounds. Mobile phones, extortion-related demand letters, and financial documents linked to the KCP (PWG) were also seized.

The operation yielded seizure of various vehicles, including a Maruti Gypsy, a Bolero camper, and other assorted motorcycles and cars. Training equipment such as bamboo dummy guns and camouflage clothing were confiscated.

The arrested militants were identified as Sagolsem James (26), Khumbongmayum Ranjan (24), Ningthoukhongjam Robichand (26), Ningthoukhongjam Sushil (48), Moirangthem Mohen (40), Thokchom Micheal (25), Seram Athem (27), Khulem Bidur (51), Kangabam Abungo (21), Yumlembam Inao (43), Ningthoujam Ranjeeta Devi (20), Salam Binita Devi (20) and Thokchom Sumati Devi (29).

The rescued individual, Sagolshem Bobo (28), was reunited with his family.
