Guwahati: Political parties in Assam are gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with the Nowgong parliamentary seat being one of the most important ones.

The Congress party, in particular, is currently evaluating potential candidates to field in the constituency.

According to party sources, three to four names have been shortlisted and sent to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for screening and analysis of their “winnability.”

The frontrunners include the sitting MP from Nowgong, Pradyut Bordoloi, Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi, and Samaguri MLA Rakibul Hussain.

The AICC is currently scrutinizing them, taking into account various factors.

A party source has indicated that the final decision on candidatures for all Lok Sabha seats in Assam is expected to be announced within the next 10 days.

The source further informed that Gaurav Gogoi has been preferred for the seat by several party members.
