The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) of Wokha on Wednesday has declared the year 2018 as Year of Cleanliness for Wokha district under the theme “Clean Wokha-Beautiful Wokha”.

The announcement was made at the monthly DPDB meeting, held under the chairmanship of DPDB vice chairman and Wokha Deputy Commissioner D Manazir Jeelani Samoon at DC’s conference hall, as per the proposal submitted by 38th Wokha Assembly constituency MLA Dr Chumben Murry.

Briefing the board with regard to declaration of Year of Cleanliness, Wokha Town Council (WTC) administrator and ADC Nokchasashi highlighted activities to be undertaken and implemented. He informed garbage collection has been increased from three days a week to six days a week by Wokha Town Council, sweepers deployed in the town on daily basis, five pick-up vehicles for waste disposal under Swachh Bharat Mission are in place (MoU signed), mass social work to be conducted bi-monthly with the involvement of the wards/colonies, all government offices and machineries etc., all shops to keep waste bins and keep their surroundings clean, proper drainage to be maintained by the wards/colonies, improvement of facilities for sanitation workers where proper implements, tools and materials to be provided for their safety.

The WTC proposed competition among the colonies of Wokha town while acknowledgement/awards may be given to the best three colonies. The award may be given out on the last DPDB meeting of the year for which a separate fund may be kept aside from the Local Area Development Fund-common pool, it stated adding a committee will be constituted for the award.

The WTC administrator also informed the board that utility of cesspool will be made operational by June.

Power point presentation of National Adoption Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC) and implementation and distribution of tools and machineries under Wokha district was presented by Agriculture department during the meeting.

Department of PWD (Housing), National Highways and ITI, presented their departmental activities and programmes.
