Boxing sensations from the state of Assam – Olympics medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Asian medallist Shiva Thapa are in contention for place in International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) athletes committee. 

The athletes committee will be formed through voting during the world championships for men and women. 

The men’s boxing world championships is currently underway at Belgrade. 

Shiva Thapa from Assam is participating in the 63.5kg category of the men’s boxing world championships. 

Shiva Thapa had previously won bronze in the event.

On the other hand, Lovlina Borgohain, who had won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, will also take part in the women’s boxing world championships. 

The women’s boxing world championships is scheduled to take place in December in Turkey. 

She has previously won two bronze medals in the marquee tournament. 

AIBA received 34 nominations from five confederations, of which 27 were found to be eligible by its ethics committee. 

“The Athletes Committee will be composed of 10 people, with the newly-elected Chair and Vice-Chair becoming voting members of the AIBA Board of Directors,” the AIBA stated. 

“Each election shall be conducted by a secret ballot. AIBA shall decide if electronic or paper ballots shall be used,” AIBA said.
