Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Thursday visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) at Imphal to inspect the installation of a 20 kl cryogenic tank at its premises.

The cryogenic tank will be used to store liquid oxygen to be used for treatment of Covid-19 patients having respiratory issues.

The chief minister said that the main cryogenic tank for the institute is likely to arrive at Imphal within the next 48 hours.

Singh also inspected the construction of the 200-bedded dedicated Covid Hospital that is coming up at Kiyamgei in Imphal.

Off the 200 beds, 50 will be for patients requiring intensive care and the remaining 150 will be general beds.

The Covid Hospital is being set up with assistance from the Defence Research and Development Organization.
