There is no respite from the surge of new COVID-19 positive cases in Meghalaya despite containment measures.
Meghalaya on Tuesday registered 339 new COVID-19 positive cases, one of highest single-day spikes thus far.
Meghalaya has not been able to curb then surge in COVID-19 positive cases, despite implementation of strict measures in the State capital – Shillong, and two other towns – Tura and Jowai which were declared as “containment areas”.
Shillong, Tura and Jowai were turned into “containment areas” on May 1 and will remain as so till May 10.
Fortunately, the State has not recorded any COVID-19 death case on Tuesday.

Notably, Meghalaya has recorded as many as 1168 COVID-19 positive cases between May 1 and May 4.
As many as 14 COVID-19 related deaths were also reported during the same period.
On May 1, Meghalaya detected a total of 262 COVID-19 cases and 3 related deaths.
On May 2, the State recorded 321 cases and 5 deaths.
On May 3, Meghalaya logged 246 COVID-19 positive cases and as many as 6 related deaths.
Meghalaya Deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that the 339 new COVID-19 positive cases has taken the total active cases in the State up to 2019.
He informed that 204 persons have also recovered from the COVID infection on Tuesday.
As on Tuesday, more than 200 COVID-19 patients were admitted in hospitals, of which, around 180 of them are on oxygen support.
