Tripura Government is all set to take eperts’ opinion on the matter of ganja (cannabis) cultivation in the State.

This was informed by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb in the State Assembly on Monday.

Biplab Deb was responding to a proposal put forward by BJP MLA Diba Chandra Rankhew for giving legal recognition to ganja cultivation in Tripura.

Tripura CM Biplab Deb said that he would take experts opinion over the possibility of legalising ganja cultivation in the State to boost rural economy.

This statement from Tripura CM Biplab Deb is in contradiction to the State Government’s sloganeering of making the State ‘drug-free’.

Notably, Tripura Police has been conducting a crackdown on ganja cultivation in the State.

However, BJP MLA Diba Chandra Rankhewl said in the State Assembly that if country-made liquor can be recognized then why not ganja be given legal recognition?

Tripura CM Biplab Deb said, “It is true that ganja cultivation brings good income.”
