The Congress has sought the removal of Assam chief minister’s media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami from his post for allegedly participating in the Assembly election campaign for the BJP.

Congress demanded the Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) that Goswami either be removed as media adviser to CM or restrained him from participating in the election campaign for the BJP.

The Assam Congress in a memorandum submitted to the CEO alleged that CM’s media adviser Goswami has been actively participating in the election campaign for the BJP.

“As responsible citizens, we all believe those govt departments and its officials have to carry out their administrative functions within their bounded jurisdiction and during the election, they should follow the guidelines framed by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

“However, it has come to our knowledge that media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami has been actively participating in the election campaign for the BJP. He has been canvassing for the ruling party as well as chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal directly in spite of being a govt officer which is against the guidelines framed by ECI for the conducts govt servants,” read the memorandum.

“It is unfortunate that Goswami, without giving resignation from the post of media adviser to the CM of Assam, has been actively participating in the campaign programmes of the BJP, which is clearly a misconduct as well as corrupt practice by him and the ruling BJP,” Congress alleged.
