The newly appointed Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Karbi Anglong, Mridul Kumar Mahanta, who took charge on March 5 held an interactive meet with the leaders of social organizations and the media in Diphu on Friday.

Mahanta convened the meet to know the district and its issues and problems.

The president, Karbi Students Association (KSA), Inglongpho Bijoy Bey informed the Deputy Commissioner about the academic problems of the district.

He said the number of zero teacher schools is increasing day by day. Only one model schools is completed in the district, he apprised the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner.

The general secretary of Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA), Kajek Tokbipi intimated the Deputy Commissioner on the problems faced by women in the district.

She said there are atrocities on women and cases of rape are rampant. The safety of women should be taken into consideration, she said.

All Assam Students Union (AASU) organizing secretary, Bedanta Saikia, informed the Deputy Commissioner about the mistakes in NRC update in first the first draft publication which contained names of doubtful citizens with cases pending in Foreigners Tribunal.

President of Kuki National Assembly, T Touthang informed the Deputy Commissioner about traffic congestion in Diphu roads and suggested building of over-bridges at certain locations.

Senior citizen Pari Rongpi suggested that beautification of Netaji Subosh Chandra Bose Park in front of Circuit House should give a facelift to the Diphu town.

The Deputy Commissioner was also intimated by the social organizations about the delay in completion of Manja-Diphu-Lumding Road and the large scale encroachment of reserve forest land in the inter-district and inter-state boundary.

Mahanta sought the cooperation from the public for the development of the district.

ADC Sunmoni Sonowal and other officials also attended the meet.
