The Congress in Assam has launched its ‘Axom Basaon Ahok’ campaign for the upcoming Assembly Elections in the State.

The ‘Axom Basaon Ahok’ campaign of the Congress party in Assam was launched on Wednesday at the Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.

Top Congress leaders including APCC President Ripun Bora, Lok Sabha MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Pradyut Bordoloi, All India Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev, CLP leader in Assam Debabrata Saikia and former Assam Minister Rockybul Hussain were present in the campaign launching event.

The ‘Axom Basaon Ahok’ will begin on February 12 across the State with its first leg set to kick-start at Bordua in Nagaon district, the birthplace of Mahapurush Sirmanta Sankardev.

The Congress’ campaign aims to highlight the ‘failures’ of the BJP-led Government in Assam.

The Congress in its ‘Axom Basaon Ahok’ campaign launching event accused the ruling BJP of destroying the social fabric of Assam.

“BJP’s narrative has threatened to destroy the culture and history of Assam,” said Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi.

“The BJP speaks about the famous battle of Saraighat. But they never speak about who were the leaders of the Mughal and Ahom Armies. The BJP never mentions that the Mughal army was being led by a Hindu General – Ram Singha. On the other hand Ahom General Lachit Barphukan’s second-in-command was Ismail Siddique alias Bagh Hazarika. The BJP never mentions these things because these facts don’t fit into their narrative,” added Pradyut Bordoloi.

Pradyut Bordoloi said that the Congress party has always tried to take Assam and the country forward by holding hands of each and every community, Pradyut Bordoloi added.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi has said that it is time to save Assam from the ‘misrule’ of BJP-led Government in the State.

“Poor are becoming poorer, rich are becoming richer. Such is the misrule of the BJP Government,” Gaurav Gogoi said.

“It’s high time that the BJP’s misrule in Assam is brought to an end to save the State. This campaign is not of the Congress party, it is a campaign of the people of Assam,” Gaurav Gogoi added.
