Assam Rifles in a joint operation seized has huge quantities of smuggled areca nuts in Mizoram’s Champhai district along the Indo-Myanmar border, sources said on Thursday.
Acting on specific information, the joint team of 8th battalion of 23 sector Assam Rifles and customs department raided a godown along Tiau-Ngur road on Wednesday.
During the raid, 2,100 bags of areca nuts worth Rs 3.52 crore were sized.
The area nuts were smuggled from Myanmar, the sources said.
The seized illegal goods were handed over to the customs department, sources said.
