Former Assam Congress MLA, Mohibul Haque said on Monday that Congress chief Sonia Gandhi will take the final call on a possible alliance between the party and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
AIUDF chief and Lok Sabha MP, Badruddin Ajmal as well as other state-level congress leaders were confident about the alliance.
“All India Congress Committee general secretary and in-charge of Assam, Jitendra Singh had clarified that no discussion about the alliance with AIUDF has taken place at the high command level”, said Haque while addressing the media in Dhubri on Monday.
Singh had said that the statements made by Congress and AIUDF leaders regarding a possible alliance are their personal opinion.

Haque also demanded that a “Shradhanjali Yatra” be organized covering all districts of the state to pay tribute to the three-time former chief minister, Tarun Gogoi.
The AIUDF was open to an alliance with the Congress during the previous state assembly elections, but Gogoi was opposed to it.
He feared the alliance could harm the Congress in Upper Assam where a strong sentiment of Assamese nationalism works.
However, this time Gogoi was in favour of an alliance with AIUDF in a bid to oust the present BJP government from the state.
Ajmal too had supported a possible alliance between the two parties.
The sudden death of Gogoi has cast doubt on the possible alliance between Congress and AIUDF.
On the other hand, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that the people will not vote for the Congress in the state assembly elections next year if it joins hands with AIUDF.
Congress and AIUDF are together contesting in the upcoming Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) polls, with Congress fielding 13 candidates and AIUDF 9.
