Jorhat Police arrested a woman at Rowraiah area in Jorhat on Tuesday in a fraud case.

The woman has been identified as 48-year-old Baby Singh alias Archana Singh who allegedly had collected money from several people promising jobs in defence services.

Police sources said, Baby Singh was wanted by Jorhat Police in several cases.

She has been arrested by police in a case (No 1585/17) under Sections 406, 468, 420, 120(B) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case was registered last year.

The FIR was lodged by a few youths from Maharashtra alleging that Baby Singh had collected money from them promising jobs in the defence services.

The police produced her before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jorhat, Rina Boro, on Tuesday.

The Rina Boro Court sent Baby Singh to the police custody for seven days for interrogation.

Police sources said the police expect to gather more information during the interrogation.
