More than 9 lakh tea garden labourers in Assam will get Aadhaar cards, announced Assam minister of state for labour and tea tribes welfare, Sanjay Kishan.

Minister Kishan said this while inaugurating an Aadhaar enrolment centre at Orangajuli Tea Estate in Udalguri district on Monday.

Attending the inaugural ceremony at the tea garden the minister said, “The state government has decided to resume the Aadhaar enrolment exercise.”

“The SOP (standard operating procedure) issued by the UIDAI will be strictly followed in this regard wherein more than 9 lakh of tea garden labourers will be enrolled and provided Aadhaar card which has become essential for every citizen of the nation,” he added.

The minister further said the tea garden labourers are facing trouble to get benefits of various welfare initiatives of the government due to lack of Aadhaar card and the enrolment exercise will help fulfil the labourers’ long-cherished dreams of being beneficiaries of the government schemes.

He also acknowledged the Goodricke Group Limited-run Orangajuli Tea Estate management body’s role in fighting the pandemic and their commitment towards the garden where it has established a high school way back and providing computer education to the garden students.

Kishan assured of setting up of an ATM machine in Orangajuli Tea Estate for the labourers and the management.

Orangajuli Teat Estate general manager Talat Ahmed in his speech expressed gratefulness to the state government and the NorthEast Small Finance Bank for the initiative to set up the Aadhaar enrolment centre in ‘camp mode’ in the tea garden.

Former Rajya Sabha member Santiuse Kujur, NorthEast Small Finance Bank officials including its chief people officer Tridip Sarmah; chief technology officer  Ali Mohammed Saquib; business head Pritesh Nath; zonal head Anjanjyoti Das and other officials of Orangajuli TE were present on the occasion.
