At least three persons have been killed due to flash floods which left a trail of devastation in Assam’s Dhubri district on Tuesday.

According to the flood report released by the Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Tuesday, floods have inundated 333 villages of Dhubri district affecting 410,746 people.

Dhubri deputy commissioner Ananta Lal Gyani said the district administration is keeping a close watch on the rising trends of the water level and has alerted the people, particularly those who are residing in the riverine and char areas.

The South Salmara revenue circle of the district has been worst affected, followed by Dhubri, Gauripur, Chapar, Agomoni and Golakganj circles, said Gyani.

According to the daily flood report, under Dhubri revenue circle, 96 villages, under Gauripur revenue circle 37, under Agomoni revenue circle 21 villages, under Chapar revenue circle 30 villages and under Golokganj revenue circle, 6 villages have been affected by the floods.

In South Salmara revenue circle, a total of 164 villages have been submerged by flood waters.

Till the filing of this report, a total of 747 inmates are staying in seven relief camps in the district.

State social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahamo on Tuesday visited the district and took stock of the flood situation and preparedness from the district authority.

She directed the district administration to intensify the relief works among the affected people and provide all other essentials for those who have been affected by the floods.

Meanwhile, flood waters have inundated the Dhubri district headquarter town on Tuesday morning.

The mighty river Brahamputra is flowing at 29.11 metres above the danger level (28.62 m) in Dhubri town and the Central Water Commission (CWC) official sources forecast further rise water by 6 cm on Wednesday morning.

Flood waters have already damaged six roads and two bridges in the district, said the DDMA (District Dissaster Managment Authority, Dhubri).
