The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) finally got its own building after 48 years of its establishment.
The new building was inaugurated by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday.
The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) was set up almost 48 years ago on September 22, 1972.
Now, the MPSC will start functioning from its own building at Lower Lachumiere in Shillong.
“This new building is a small step towards creating a new MPSC that is more accessible and more ‘friendly,” chief minister Sangma said.
He said efforts are being made to improve the functioning of the MPSC cells that have been created in different district headquarters of Tura, Jowai, Nongstoin, Nongpoh, Williamnagar, and Baghmara and also to complete the building of the MPSC office in Tura.
He said reforms within the MPSC will further enhance its efficiency in conducting exams and timely declaration of results and also in areas of providing more facilities to ease the hardships of aspirants who visit the State Public Service Commission.
“Apart from transparency, conducting exams fast and getting results out faster is very important, in which decentralisation and use of technology will be critical. With decentralisation of exams, people won’t have to travel far distances,” the chief minister said.
“Modern video conferencing systems can be utilised to conduct interviews. All these interventions can ensure that MPSC performs in a much more efficient manner,” he added.
Stating that decentralisation and technological interventions are crucial to make MPSC perform better, Sangma said the creation of an IT Cell in the MPSC will not only add to its efficiency but also overhaul and improve the overall experience of the candidates by making the application processes and communications much simpler.
