A special train named ‘Shramik Special Train’ from Punjab with 932 passengers is expected to arrive at Jiribam, Manipur’s lone railway station located around 220 km west of Imphal, on Friday, official sources said.
The special train left Sirhind in Punjab on May 13.
After performing medical screening and other formalities, 74 buses which are being stationed at Jiri Tipaimukh Road, in front of Jiribam Higher Secondary School by the Transport Department, will transport the returnees to quarantine centers of their respective districts, sources said.
Deputy commissioner W Malemnganba Chenglei of Jiribam district chaired a meeting of district officials in this regard at his office chamber on Thursday, the official sources reaching Imphal said.
The meeting which was attended by Jiribam district SP M Mubi Singh and other stakeholders minutely discussed the monitoring and arrangement of the passengers after arrival of the train.
The state police, officials of chief medical officer’s office, Transport Department, Jiribam Municipal Council, Public Works Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Electricity Department and District Heads who are strictly discharging their service under Jiribam district administration were also present.
DC Jiribam Malemnganba also appealed to the coming passengers for maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, following the World Health Organization guidelines, to use the hand gloves and also for using dustbins.
He also thanked the different civil society organizations and representatives of departments and corporations for extending full support to district administration in handling of the passengers coming from Chennai on Wednesday when the train arrives at Jiribam Railway Station and transporting them safely to their respective district quarantine centres.
On Wednesday, 1,140 people who were stranded in and around Chennai, were the first to arrive by a special team and later they were transported back to their respective quarantine centres in the districts.
