West Agartala Police on Friday detained 10 Bangladeshi nationals from Joy Nagar area of Agartala. The detainees don’t have any valid documents or passport.

Police said that the men were in the lookout to return to Bangladesh and were loitering aimlessly in the area when they were detained.

During interrogation, one of the detainees confessed that they came to Tripura some seven months ago and they were engaged as construction labourers in Agartala.

“All of them were working for different contractors in the city. However, due to the lockdown, the works stopped and hence they decided to return to Bangladesh,” police informed.

“They further confessed that their entry to Tripura was facilitated by a middleman who charged Rs 2,600 each,” police added.

Till the filing of this report, the men were still questioned by the police to find out the details of the “middleman” who facilitated their entry into the Indian soil.
