As precautionary measures to protect the students of the state, the Assam government on Thursday announced the summer vacation of the educational institutes from May 1-31 amid nationwide lockdown.

This early summer vacation was announced by Assam education and health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference in Guwahati on Thursday.

Earlier, Assam government announced summer vacation for schools and colleges in July.

Talking to reporters, minister Sarma also said the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will declare the results of Class X and Class 12 respectively by the end of June.

But the students will get the mark sheets in digital mode only, the education minister said.

He said the students will be able to take admission through digital mark sheets.

Free textbooks will be provided to the Higher Secondary 2nd year students in their respective colleges and schools from May 26-28.

“The HS 2nd year students of the state will be able to collect their textbooks from their respective schools and colleges from May 26-28 by maintaining social distancing,” education minister Sarma said.

The education department has decided to start online classes for the lockdown-affected students through an app – Biswa Vidya Assam.

The Tele-Education program is implemented in Assam with a studio at Guwahati to deliver animated curriculum mapped education to government school students from Class 5-10.

The minister said the state government is planning to extend the academic year up to March 31, however, he said, they have sought suggestions from the teachers and academicians in this regard.
