A couple of villages in Assam’s Udalguri have taken initiatives to barricade their villages and isolated themselves as part of nationwide lockdown to fight coronavirus.
The villagers of Bhuyankhat, Kahibari, Pachkiya and a few others have put up self-made barricades across the periphery to lock themselves in to keep the novel coronavirus at bay.
To strictly enforce the lockdown, village youth are patrolling in groups.
They are neither allowing anybody in nor permitting anybody to go out.

The youth have vowed to stay in lockdown despite the adverse situation.
Plastered along the barricade are posters announcing no entry and other precautions regarding the coronavirus.
The banners make it amply clear that no outsiders will be allowed.
“At this time, no outsiders can come in and we don’t want our residents to go out,” said Kaustav Sarmah, a villager of Bhuyankhat.
However, many people are critical of such stand.

“It can not only be dangerous but life threatening in case any emergency situation arises wherein ambulances or police vans will not be able to pass through,” said Bhuban Thapoliya, a scribe with an Assamese daily and a resident of Dimakuchi in Udalguri.
