The Meghalaya government has decided to allow mining activities, public transport and industrial estates to resume operations from May 4.

Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Friday that the state government has taken few decisions after thorough deliberations.

“Only those licensed mining activities will resume which includes minor and major minerals approved by first and mining departments. The mining department also has few industrial units like Lafarge and other units can resume activities from May 4,” Tynsong said.

On re-opening up of industrial estates, he said that the state government has decided that the EPIP at Byrnihat Umïam, industrial units in West Khasi hills, Jaiñtia Hills, Ri Bhoi and Garo hills will be allowed from Monday.

On cement plants, Tynsong said, the government has asked them to submit detailed plans like bringing materials from outside so that government can work out the modalities.

“Once proposals are received, decision will be taken accordingly,” Tynsong said.

He said all these decisions have been taken with conditions and there should be SOP to be followed by all as prescribed or issued by the health department, failing which, the government has to close down such units.

Tynsong informed that public transportation within their respective districts would be allowed to resume from May 4 except in Shillong Agglomeration as restriction is still there.

He said the state government has instructed the Deputy Commissioners and District Transport Officers to work out the modalities.

Tynsong informed that out of 100 percent, the public transportation will be allowed only 25 percent is allowed and this system of 25 per cent will be worked out by respective DCs and DTOs.
