Meghalaya government has collected samples of 90 suspected COVID19 patients for testing.

Meghalaya chief minister, Conrad K Sangma said on Tuesday that the health department has collected 90 samples till 4 pm on Monday, and are waiting for the results.

A 69-year-old doctor of Bethany Hospital in Shillong tested positive on Monday, which triggered the panic button across Meghalaya.

Around 200 primary contacts of the COVID-19 patient have been traced so far, Sangma said.

The chief minister said the 200 primary contacts of the COVID-19 patient include his family members, servants at home, doctors and staff at Bethany Hospital.

Sangma said the government has asked people to voluntarily register if they visited Bethany Hospital from March 22, and came into direct or indirect contact with the COVID19 patient.

Sangma said the secondary contacts would be those who came in contact with the 200 primary contacts.

“We have asked people to voluntarily register with us as it is easy to reach out to the public to register with the government,” Sangma said.
