There is a sharp decline in the number of foreign tourists to Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in Assam due to coronavirous outbreak across the globe.
“The tourist inflow, especially foreign tourists into the National Park, has recorded a decreasing trend after the government issued advisory to avoid nonessential travel due to the rapid spread of coronavirus,” said a park official.
An awareness meeting involving all stakeholders including the hotels, resorts, restaurants were organized on March 13 and were apprised of the need of taking essential steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Kaziranga.
Foreign tourists visiting Kaziranga and staying in different hotels and resorts were advised to go for health check-up at Kohora Model Hospital if necessary to avoid any spread of coronavirus, said an official.
Coronavirus has so far claimed two lives in India and 84 people have been tested positive for the deadly disease.
In Assam, however, no cases of coronavirus have been reported.
The Government of India has cancelled the tourist visa of visitors of some of the countries which have been severely hit by the massive impact of coronavirus.
Secondly, those tourists who came to Kaziranga earlier are being monitored by Health and Family Welfare department.
According to Forest department sources, there is no established fact to suggest any kind of spread and infection of coronavirus from human to wild animals in Kaziranga National Park.
