Following the enactment of CAA, there has been an increase in the outflow of illegal Bangladeshi migrants to Bangladesh over the past one month, the BSF said on Friday.
“There has been a substantial increase in outflow of illegal Bangladeshi migrants to the bordering country in last one month,” said BSF Inspector General (South Bengal Frontier) YB Khurania to reporters.
“In January alone, we apprehended 268 illegal Bangladeshi migrants, most of who were trying to sneak into the neighbouring country,” Khurania added.
Another BSF official added that most of the persons trying to leave India were engaged as masons, maids and housekeepers.
The official further said that the highest outflow was through the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The migrants were mostly based in Bangalore and North India and were mostly involved in paltry jobs.
Reportedly, the BSF in 2019 apprehended 2,194 Bangladeshis, most of them caught while trying to illegally sneak into India.
BSF sources further informed that the troopers were not stopping the immigrants from crossing over to Bangladesh, except in cases when they were found to be smuggling.
