The day-long Bharat Bandh on Wednesday called by 10 trade unions demanding the government to drop the proposed labour reforms affected normal life in Assam.

Public transport kept off the roads across the state.

Till the filing of this report, most of the business establishments, shops, schools, and other educational institutions remained closed.

A number of examinations were cancelled on the last moment on Tuesday.

The trade unions are also demanding for the hike in the minimum wage to Rs 21,000-Rs 24,000 per month.

One of their demands also includes stopping the privatisation of public sector undertakings.

The unions are also demanding the government to repeal the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).

The bank workers are also specifically striking for a raise in their wages and against bank mergers and bank reforms and this will affect the banking sector.
