The Tripura state president of Lok Janshakti Party, Rupam Kar, has been arrested by police for allegedly cheating people.

Rupam Kar, son of Babul Kar and a resident of Bardowali, allegedly cheated people in the name of allotting foreign liquor shops and jobs.

He allegedly cheated people of a total of Rs 60 lakh.

Kar has been arrested in connection with case no 212WAG 2020 u/s 468/471 IPC, filed on December 18, 2020.

A team of the Crime Branch, led by supervising officer, deputy superintendent of police Ajay Kumar Das and investigating officer, inspector Benu Lal Kar and sub-inspector Ashish Sarkar, conducted raid and search in Kar’s house at Bardowali.

After the raid in his house behind the Bardowali High School, 25-year-old Kar was arrested along with forged documents, rubber stamps of government officers, ONGC and Indian Oil, computer and printer.

Sources said the recovered and seized items were used by Kar to create fake foreign liquor license, petrol pump allotment and job offer letters in return for huge amount of money.

A police case was lodged by Sabyasachi Singh, TCS, superintendent of excise.

Singh lodged a complaint against Tapan Saha of North Badharghat, who submitted fake documents but during preliminary investigation, it was found that he was cheated by Rupam Kar.

Rupam Kar is being interrogated to find out all those involved in the whole racket.
