North Tripura superintendent police Bhanupada Chakraborty detained one Tinku Mazumder for smuggling Yaba tablets.

Mazumdar, a resident of Chandrapur area of Agartala, however, denied smuggling the contraband substance.

“I went to Silchar for treatment and there a person handed me this packet and asked me to deliver it to a person here in Tripura,” he said.

The police informed that they carried out the search based on a piece of secret information and detained Mazumdar from Dahrmanagar railway station.

“A total of 10,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 50 lakh were seized from the accused,” police informed.

Mazumdar is a driver by profession and the complaint has been registered with Dharmanagar. They are investigating the case.

Earlier this month, Tripura police destroyed 49,740 Yaba tablets, seized during different raids conducted in Sipahijala district in 2018.
