The annual India Today State of the States Conclave and Awards – 2019 has adjudged Assam in the ‘Most Improved Big State – Overall’ and ‘Most Improved Big State for Economy’categories.
On behalf of the chief minister, industries and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary received both the awards from union information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on Saturday.
The India Today ‘State of the States’ study is an attempt to find out which of India’s states offers its citizens the best opportunities, both at work and outside.
The categories on which the states are judged include economy, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, inclusive development, law and order, governance, entrepreneurship, environment and cleanliness.
Receiving the awards, Patowary, on behalf of the chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the people of the State, thanked the India Today Group for conferring the award to Assam.
Patowary lauded the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for overall development of Assam and in positioning the State as the epicentre of ASEAN and BBN countries.
Patowary credited the award to the leadership of chief minister Sonowal for transforming Assam into a robust economy since the last three years.
Patowary highlighted the initiatives taken by the present State Government under the leadership of Sonowal for rapid progress and development of the State in all spheres in terms.
Patowary, in his speech, offered a glimpse of development referring from connectivity to agriculture, investment to skill development and education to health care.
The industry minister also mentioned the successful conduct of Advantage Assam, India-Bangladesh Stakeholders’ Meet and other such national and international events in the State and their subsequent consequence in boosting State’s economy and development.
Highlighting the State’s importance as a sports hub, Patowary referred to the achievements of Assam in national and international arena.
He also apprised the audience that Assam is going to host the third Khelo India Games from January 10 to 22 next year.
The minister summed up by stating that with help and cooperation from all the stakeholders and consistent support from the people, the State will continue its accelerated journey in the path of development and progress in the days ahead.
