The SUV and assistant commissioner Apurba Kr Nath

An assistant commissioner of Bajali sub division was allegedly assaulted on Monday by a group of three men following a road rage at Pathsala town in Lower Assam’s Barpeta district.

Two accused were arrested from the spot while one managed to flee, police officials said, adding investigation is on to nab him.

Police officials said Apurba Kumar Nath, assistant commissioner (AC) of Bajali sub division, was assaulted by three men travelling in an SUV following an argument between Deka and the trio.

The three men get into a heated argument with AC Nath on the road over traffic rules violation and they subsequently manhandled the ACS officer in the fit of rage, said a police official.

Nath was on his way to office on a Royal Enfield bike when the incident took place, the official added.

While police have arrested Anup Das and Nayan Das in connection with the incident, another accused identified as Gopal Saha managed to flee.

A case has been registered at Pathsala police outpost under relevant sections of the IPC.
