An emergency meeting in connection with the deteriorating conditions of Bhalukpong-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) and Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga (OKSRT) roads in Arunachal Pradesh was held on Tuesday.
These roads connect the West Kameng, East Kameng and Tawang districts to rest of the State and country.
The meeting was held at the office of the deputy commissioner’s office at Bomdila.
The meeting chaired by West Kameng deputy commissioner Dr Sonal Swaroop was attended by Kalaktang MLA Dorjee Wangdi Kharma, the Commanders of 14 BRTF and 42 BRTF, representatives of community based and student organizations, administrative officers, service providers and officials from the departments of power (electrical) and forest.
Speaking on the occasion, members of the CBOs and student organizations unanimously asked the BRO authorities to immediately improve and increase the machineries deployed in the said roads and demanded for exact time for completion of the said roads.
The members also alleged BRO of not following the muck dumping procedures which has in turn created huge environmental deterioration in addition to recurring road blockades.
While answering the queries raised in the meeting, the 14 BRTF Commander informed the house that the BCT road project would be completed by December, 2021 and added that issues pertaining to BCT and OKSRT roads would be expedited and solved soon.
Speaking on behalf of all the four legislators of West Kameng district, MLA Kharma asked the BRO authorities not to disturb entire stretch of road, rather he pointed out to complete a limited length of road before disturbing the other patch.
He directed them to dump the muck in designated dumping sites and further asked district administration to reschedule the traffic advisories in BCT road for convenience of the commuters and local populace.
“Mere declaring a time for completion of road is not sufficient, rather it should be backed by commitment and by deploying more machines,” Khamra said.
Deputy commissioner Swaroop said that improved and increased manpower and machineries would definitely help in achieving the target at stipulated time frame.
She said that since the roads were of strategic importance from defence as well as tourism point of view, its timely completion is significant for development of the area.
The deputy commissioner further requested all CBOs and other organizations to address their grievances to authorities concerned simultaneously while addressing it to district administration for prompt in action.
