A decomposed body of a journalist was recovered from Jyotinagar area in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia on Saturday morning.

The body of journalist Bijen Deep, who has been missing for last three days, was recovered from the office of a news portal run by him in Tinsukia.

“From preliminary investigation we came to know that the person Bijen Deep was working in a news portal. In fact, he was the owner of the portal and operated it from a rented flat at Jyotinagar area in Tinsukia town. We have recovered his body from the office,” Tinsukia SP Siliditya Chetia told Northeast Now.

Chetia said the body has been sent for postmortem examination.

“It could be a case of murder but right now we cannot confirm anything.  Thing will be clear only after we received the postmortem report. We are probing the incident,” the SP said.

The journalist Bijen Deep was a resident of Katchujan area in Tinsukia district.

The deep scratch in the neck of the body seems like it was cut by a sharp weapon, said a police official.

The Journalist Association of Assam has condemned the incident and demanded for proper inquiry into the case.
