The Uttarakhand chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has served a defamation notice on yoga guru Baba Ramdev for his remarks against allopathy and allopathic doctors.

The Uttarakhand chapter of IMA has demanded an apology from Baba Ramdev within 15 days and said if he fails to do so it will demand a compensation of Rs 1,000 crore from the yoga guru.

The notice has been sent to Baba Ramdev by lawyer Neeraj Pandey on behalf of IMA Uttarakhand secretary Ajay Khanna, says a media report.

The notice says the remarks by Ramdev has damaged the reputation and image of allopathy and around 2,000 practitioners of it who are part of the association.

In the notice, the yoga guru’s remarks have been termed as a ‘criminal act’ under section 499 of the Indian Penal Code.

The notice demanding a written apology from the yoga guru said if he fails to seek apology within 15 days of its receipt, a compensation of Rs 1,000 crore will be demanded from him at the rate of Rs 50 lakh per member of IMA.

The notice asked Baba Ramdev to make a video clip contradicting all his “false and defamatory allegations” and circulate it on all the social media platforms where he had uploaded his earlier video clip levelling the allegations.

The notice has termed the advertisement on his firm’s product “Coronil kit” as “misleading” and asked the yoga guru to withdraw it from all platforms, failing which an FIR and a criminal case will be lodged against him by the IMA.
