OTT platform Disnep Hotstar is finding itself in troubled waters soon after the release of its new series – ‘The Empire’. 

#UninstallHotstar has been trending in the social media ever since the new series ‘The Empire’ was released in the platform on Friday. 

Fans have been raising objection to the series soon after the OTT platform released the trailer of the series.  

Fans and groups have been accusing the makers of the series of “glorifying the Mughal invader” – Babur. 

However, Hotstar rejected grievance complaints against the series “The Empire”, which led to the trend – #UninstallHotstar.

“The Empire”, a series on first Mughal emperor Babur, is based on an adaptation of the novel – Empire of the Moghul – Raiders from the North, written by one Alex Rutherford. 

Complaints were sent to the grievance officer appointed under Information Technology (Guidelines for intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, which requires digital news media and online publishers to adhere to the “Code of Ethics” as prescribed by the rules. 

The grievance officer rejected the complaints claiming that the series is not glorifying Babur.
