Kashmiri students

A number of Kashmiri students of an engineering college at Sangrur in Punjab were allegedly assaulted late last night after India lost its opening T20 World Cup match against Pakistan.

According to a media report, Punjab police officials arrived at the college campus after the incident and brought the situation at Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology under control.

A Kashmiri student while showing the damages caused to a room said: “We were watching the match here. UP waale barged in. We came here to study. We are also Indian. You can see what was done to us. Are we not Indians? So what does Modi say?”

On Sunday, Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in their opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

According to a match report, Rizwan (79*) and Babar (68*) didn’t give any chance to India bowlers to come on top as the two batsmen continued to dominate the proceedings.

Pakistan chased down the target of 152 without losing any wicket and India looked clueless in their opening match against the rival team

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has appealed to Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi to look into the matter and ensure the safety of the Kashmiri students.

“It is distressing to hear about the incidents of physical & verbal assault against some Kashmiri students in a college in Punjab last night. I request @CHARANJITCHANNI ji to direct @PunjabPoliceInd to look in to this & also to reassure the students studying in Punjab,” former J&K CM Abdullah tweeted.

Earlier, Kashmiri students shared videos showing broken chairs, upturned beds in their hostel rooms and also the hits taken on their bodies and the videos went viral on social media.

Another set of pictures showed a group of men, with stumps in hand, going on a rampage after India lost to Pakistan in the opening match of ICC T20 World Cup.
