Top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that the Centre has decided to repeal the three controversial farm laws keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections in five states.
“The central government could not face the strength of the Indian people represented by farmers. Upcoming state elections must have also played on their mind,” said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
He added: “Earlier, we had said that the government will have to withdraw the farm laws and today these laws were repealed.”
The top Congress leader also slammed the government for “not allowing” a discussion before passing the farm laws.

“It is unfortunate that the farm laws were repealed without discussion. This government is scared of holding a discussion,” Gandhi further said.
The bill to repeal the three farm laws was passed in both the Houses of the Parliament on Monday in record time on the first day of the Winter Session.
The government reportedly plans to get the bill signed by the President by tonight.
It has been reported that the bill to cancel the farm laws was passed in Lok Sabha within four minutes.
There were no discussions on the bill.

The bill was tabled in Lok Sabha at 12:06 pm and passed by 12:10 pm even as the opposition demanded a discussion.
According to critics, the NDA government evaded a discussion on a minimum support price for farmers’ produce, which has been a key demand during their year-long agitation.
Meanwhile, the Centre has hit back at the opposition for “creating ruckus” in the House during passing of the repeal bill.
“During the passing of the farm bills, there was enough discussion. The entire Opposition was demanding to repeal the laws. But when we went to repeal the laws the Opposition created ruckus,” union minister Pralhad Joshi said.
