Top Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi continues to be in “Illegal detention” of the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur.

Priyanka Gandhi, who was arrested on Monday for allegedly defying prohibitory orders to visit Lakhimpur Kheri, released a statement on her detention, calling her confinement ‘illegal’.

Notably, Priyanka Gandhi has been under detention, without being produced in Court for nearly 55 hours.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has shut down mobile internet services in Sitapur, where Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has been kept in detention.

On the other hand, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot will reach Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh by road via the Ghazipur border on Wednesday.

Pilot is also likely to visit Lakhimpur Kheri, where four farmers were killed after being mowed down by a car owned by union minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has attacked the UP government for ‘unlawfully’ detaining Priyanka Gandhi.

“Priyanka Gandhi has not been produced before any Court… unlawful detention beyond 24 hours is a clear violation of the fundamental rights,” Sidhu said.

He added: “BJP & UP Police:- You are violating the spirit of the Constitution, impinging on our basic human rights !!”

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena has compared the BJP with the East India Company.

A day after Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut met Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, party mouthpiece Saamana called Priyanka Gandhi a ‘warrior’ and a ‘fighter’ whose “voice and eyes have the sharpness of Indira Gandhi”.

“Priyanka Gandhi may be the target of political attacks but those who illegally imprisoned her should keep in mind that she is the ‘granddaughter’ of the great Indira Gandhi who sacrificed herself for the country and avenged the partition of India by breaking Pakistan,” it said.
