It seems doctors and other medical staff of a State-run hospital in Gujarat have lost their faith in medical sciences.
With COVID-19 cases across India are mounting at a rapid pace, chants of hymns reverberated the air at a Government hospital in Gujarat.
According to a TOI report, a yagna (Hindu ritual done in front of a sacred fire) was performed at the premises of the New Civil Hospital (NCH) in Gujarat’s Surat to ‘eradicate’ COVID-19.
Interestingly, the yagna was performed by the Arya Samaj, after the NCH administration called them to perform the rituals in the hospital campus.
Speaking on the matter, dean of Government Medical College – Ritambhara Mehta said that she was not aware that a yagna was planned inside the hospital campus.
She said: “Many volunteers come to offer social service in Covid hospitals and they proposed we should do something for the worried relatives of patients. Hence, I allowed some music or singing activity, but I was not aware that they had planned a yagna.”

Gujarat, on Tuesday, reported 6,690 new COVID-19 cases and 67 deaths – the highest single-day tallies since the start of the pandemic last year.
On the other hand, India on Wednesday registered its highest single day spike ever in the number of COVID-19 cases.
As many as 1,84,372 COVID-19 cases were logged in India in 24 hours.
Moreover, 1027 COVID-19 related deaths were also reported in India in 24 hours.

This is the highest number of cases India has ever recorded, and only the second country after the United States to record these many cases in 24 hours.
On the other hand, with 1,027 fresh COVID-19 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the death toll has also increased to 1,72,085.
The number of active cases in India now stands at 13,65,704.
