Video surveillance

In order to improve the security system in the railway stations, the Indian Railways has approved the approved works for the provision of Video Surveillance System at all stations, except halt stations.

The Video Surveillance System will include the provision of Integrated Enquiry Response Management System (IERMS) at 983 stations under the Nirbhaya Fund to enhance the safety of women passengers, the NF Railway said in a statement.

The Lok Sabha was told by Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronic & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written reply to a question in the House on Wednesday.

“So far, CCTV cameras have been installed at a total of 814 stations,” the Railway Minister told the Lok Sabha as mentioned in the statement issued by Subhanan Chanda, chief public relations officer of NF Railway.

The provision of CCTV camera is a part of the Video Surveillance System (VSS).

“In order to expedite the work, the work for provision of Video Surveillance System (VSS) at stations has been divided between some zonal Railways and RailTel Corporation of India, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under Ministry of Railways,” the statement said.
